What are your options in Calgary?
Asian grocery stores
The larger Asian supermarkets in the northeast and along Macleod Trail carry a beauty aisle. Expect sheet masks, a couple of cleansers and whatever moves quickly. Reasonably priced, very limited range, and you will not find a specific serum.
Chinook, CrossIron and the mall retailers
Authentic, returnable, and confined to the fifteen or twenty Korean products that have North American distribution, at North American pricing. Fine if the product you want is one of them.
Ordering from Korea

Why Calgary skin is different
This is the part worth reading even if you buy nothing from us.
Calgary sits at roughly 1,045 metres, in a semi-arid climate, and it gets chinooks. That combination produces conditions that are genuinely hard on a skin barrier:
- Very low humidity year round. Not just in winter. Calgary is dry in July too, which is unusual among Canadian cities and catches people out when they move here.
- Chinook swings. A 20-degree temperature change inside a day, repeatedly through the winter, means your skin never settles into one state. Barrier function does not adapt well to rapid change.
- Altitude and UV. UV intensity rises roughly 10 per cent per 1,000 metres, and snow reflects a large share of it back upward. Calgary gets more effective UV than its latitude suggests, and more of it hits the underside of your jaw and nose than people expect.
- Hard water. Calgary's water is notably hard, which leaves mineral residue and makes cleansers harsher than they are elsewhere.
The practical result is that Calgary produces more barrier damage than most Canadian cities, and it produces it year round rather than seasonally.
What to buy for this climate
If you live here, weight your routine towards barrier and away from actives:
